At Hovis Belfast, we are searching for an experienced HSE manager to join our team.

 

Role Purpose:  

  • To enable Hovis to deliver on its vision of delivering the best quality product every day, enabling growth in a sustainable way and creating superior value for its stakeholders. 
  • To effectively coordinate Health, Safety & Environmental activities for the site/company ensuring that all agreed targets and activities are achieved in a timely manner.
  • You will be responsible for providing an unbiased and transparent auditing function for the site/company. In addition, you will lead, develop and implement sustainable HS&E management programmes and provide the strategic architecture for HS&E that will ensure statutory accreditations are retained.

 

Key Activities include:

  • Good working knowledge of EHS Systems & maintain site EHS standards, including ISO 45001.
  • Develop EHS procedures and considers the impact of legislation upon the site.
  • Review risk assessment produced for the site to ensure quality and suitable and sufficient mitigation in place.
  • Investigates all accidents & incidents on sites and ensure suitable actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
  • Creates QMS/ procedures and policies and implements across all departments to ensure risk is low as reasonably practical.
  • Works with central functions to maintain and develop the existing EHS systems.
  • Maintains assurance of contractor management process to ensure legal requirements are met and safety for all is controlled.
  • Identifies training needs of the staff and trains their colleagues/ staff on legal compliance and Hovis policies, procedures and standards.
  • To be subject matter expert on EHS areas to provide support to site managers and others.
  • Monitors compliance of EHS management through internal audits and manages corrective actions through direct contact with the departmental managers to ensure actions are implemented in a timely manner with the effective outcome.
  • Manages/hosts all audits to meet internal, HSE and EA requirements.
  • Manage the remote security for site and security audits to ensure Hovis is safe and secure. 
  • Proactively ensures team/functions adhere to and are competent in the standards set and are site-compliant.
  • Ensures statutory and internal reporting eg EHS metrics meeting TOPS tours are completed within agreed timelines.
  • Manages non-compliance issues and closes within timeframes set.
  • Updates and monitors all EHS legislation information supplied through group or external bodies.
  • Examines safe systems of work and risk assessments to ensure all on-site tasks meet regulatory standards and implements changes necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures all duty holders and others with EHS responsibility have received correct training to ensure competence.
  • Work with insurance to ensure civil claims arising from accidents are suitably investigated to minimise company liability.

 

The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate:

  • Ability to influence effectively and present at all business levels.
  • Demonstrable track record of success/achievements.
  • Evidence of accident prevention programme implementation.
  • Proven experience in developing (& maintaining) leading metrics and driving associated culture change.
  • Proven ability to design and conduct H&S based training for groups of people.
  • Proven impartiality during investigations and/or deployment activity.
  • Proven experience of tactical deployment against company strategy.
  • Proven experience of positive engagement in HS&E arena / HS&E change management
  • NEBOSH general certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • IOSH qualifications.
  • Experience of working with Duty Holder Register and specifically DSEAR; PUWER
  • Experience of ISO 14001/45001 / internal auditor.
  •  Exceptional verbal and numerate skills.
  • Proven competence with IT systems.

 

While Not essential, preference will be given to those candidates who also meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of working in an unionised environment.
  • Lead Auditor.
  • IEMA Certification.
  • NEBOSH Environmental certificate.
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Member of Site or Company Senior Leadership Team
