We are looking for a member of the front line management team who leads and supports a safe, multi-disciplined shift team in the manufacture of quality bakery products which comply to the relevant legal standards and customer specifications, maximising performance by achieving the KPIs defined for the departments.


The key element of this role is to action and support a shift team to ensure the safety of our people at all times, produce the best quality products consistently, maximise capacity and minimise waste by applying the best practice tools and techniques of the Hovis Performance Management Framework (PMF).


  • Ensure safety is paramount, actively leading by example delivering a zero accident culture
  • Ensure all areas under their control adhere to the appropriate health and safety and environmental legislation, rules and standards
  • Reports hazards promptly
  • Participation in Health, Safety and Environmental meetings, audits and visits, as required
  • Completion of all necessary Health, Safety and Environmental actions, reports and documentation
  • Ensure adherence to work instructions, risk assessments and method statements
  • Responsibility for compliance to the PPE requirements for the team
  • To action and support the team to exceed all the defined KPIs for the shift requirements of:
  •  Quality without compromise
  • Capacity
  • Waste reduction
  • Yield
  • Labour
  • Enhance controls, processes & systems where possible
  • Conducts performance management (PER) for direct reports
  • Use knowledge and experience from within the team to anticipate and provide solutions
  • Train and support team members so that they are multi-skilled and competent in all tasks.
  •  Leads from the front in a flexible and committed manner.
  • Actions, monitors and supports a flexible and committed shift team which is quality focussed and driven to achieve Best Quality Everyday (BQED), ensuring all areas under their control adhere to the appropriate standards of food safety, hygiene and compliance, and maintains an audit ready state
  • Participation in customer visits, audits and technical meetings, as required
  • Clear understanding and adherence to HACCP principles
  • Promotion of high standards of GMP at all times
  • Leads the development of a proactive approach to “Clean As You Go” within the workplace
  • Delivers and sustains the quality elements of the Hovis PMF
  • Actions and supports a flexible shift team which is committed to maximising internal and external customer service levels, by
  • Achieving the production plan, on time in full
  • Maintaining the plant capability to deliver the production schedule
  • Seeking to continuously improve the performance of the plant
  • Actions and supports the team to meet or exceed all the defined KPI’s for the shift.
  • Enhances controls, processes and systems where possible



  • Relevant management /supervisory experience in a FMCG environment
  • Team Leadership experience, action driven
  •  Awareness of manufacturing best practice tools and techniques
  • Understanding of financial measures, controls and day to day data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent  IT skills (Microsoft office)
  • A conscientious and driven team player




  • Food or Drink Manufacturing experience
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Basic Health & Safety qualifications
  • Knowledge of HACCP
  • Experience of ERP systems (SAP or equivalent)
