The role of the Engineering Team Leader is to be the figurehead of the engineering shift team reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager at Hovis Nottingham. They will be responsible for the day to day running of their shift and be actively involved in projects. The Engineering Team Leader will have a hands-on approach, a continuous improvement attitude and have the ability to deal with any eventuality by making on the spot decisions. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Day to day supervision of the duty reactive engineering team ensuring self and team adhere to relevant legislative Regulations and Hovis policies, procedures and guidelines. Exercise accountability and responsibility through a duty of care for those activities undertaken by direct reports
  • Provide support and direction to ensure all staff adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Liaise with the on-duty FLM throughout the shift to agree on the priorities 
  • The first line of contact for manufacturing and despatch, reallocating engineering resources to suit changing priorities
  • Hosting of visiting contractors as and when required, adhering to the approved contractor process to include possible intermediate inductions
  • Communicate shared workload progress or resource requests with the engineering day team 
  • Ensure self and teamwork to Current Good Manufacturing Practices at all times
  • Conduct effective, recorded shift handover at start and end of duty shift
  • Lead and support the engineering shift team to encourage best practices. Promote open communication and engaging culture, continually leading by example in a professional manner
  • Work with Engineering Planner to satisfy Planned Preventive Maintenance schedules
  • Identify Critical spares to best enable rapid breakdown response
  • Identify and communicate realistic Engineering team training requirements to best suit the bakery's needs
  • Actively engage in and instigate site improvement projects
  • Participate in the Personal Development Review process with line Manager and Team
  • Manage  and adhere to planned diary appointments
  • Control of relevant files, including electronic storage and hard copy filing
  • Conduct and accompany cross-departmental COP and TOP tours 
  • Support the Generation of new Engineering documents – e.g. S.O.P (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Deputise for similar functions within areas of knowledge and responsibility across the department
  • Support all other duties relevant to the role as deemed necessary by the Engineering Manager

 

IDEAL EXPERIENCES / QUALIFICATIONS / CAPABILITIES:

 

  • Proven engineering experience with Knowledge of food manufacturing process equipment & plant
  • GSCE Grade C or above in English & Maths or equivalent.         
  • Have completed a Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship
  • ONC / NVQ III / C&G 2&3 certificates
  • Capability to read and understand technical documentation e.g. electrical schematics
  • Be Self-motivated
  • Hold a Full driving licence
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills
  • Able to self manage and prioritise own workload to satisfy commitments and meet agreed deadlines 
  • Must be flexible with hours when required to meet the needs of the business 
  • Have reasonable fitness 
  • Flexible and able to manage a number of concurrent priorities
  • Basic computer literacy (system training will be given)
  • Risk Assessments involvement 
  • Site Permits to Work process
  • Basic Knowledge of the RCA process
  • Pest Control Awareness
